LandTech was retained to provide an Existing Conditions Survey of the existing soccer field and surrounding area at the Reading High School. The survey was used as a basis for future design and renovations to the complex.
DESIGN
In addition to conventional survey techniques, LandTech was selected to provide 3D laser scanning services of the entire survey area. By utilizing 3D laser scanning, a complete understanding of the field and surrounding area was achieved before the project commenced. Having a 3D point cloud was useful in providing different design concepts, making it easier to visualize from various locations on the school property.
DEVELOP
There are guidelines for design and slope tolerances for all levels of playing fields. Some programs require strict compliance with those guidelines in order for the field to be used for an official game. The accepted method for a field survey includes obtaining the elevation on a 10’x10’ grid, but what happens in between those shots? Doesn’t that matter too? Laser scanning collects thousands of points within that 10’x10’ grid so you know exactly where the high and low spots are within the field and how much work is required to bring the field into tolerance.
