Making facility information accessible and useful across departments is a common challenge for water utilities, educational institutions, and other organizations managing complex buildings and infrastructure.
At Fall NEARC 2026, November 15–18 in Portland, Maine, LandTech Consultants will share practical approaches to addressing this challenge through digital twin technology and indoor GIS.
On Tuesday, November 17, Regena Ottaviano, GIS Analyst at LandTech, will present two sessions drawing on real-world projects to demonstrate how organizations can connect facility data, improve operational visibility, and support more informed decision-making.

Digital Twins: Breaking Down Data Silos in Water Utility Facilities
Tuesday, November 17 | 11:00–11:30 a.m. EST
Water utilities often manage critical information across disconnected systems. Asset records, facility drawings, maintenance histories, and operational data may be difficult to access together, limiting their usefulness for everyday decisions.
This session explores how reality capture, 3D modeling, and GIS can bring these information sources together into an interactive facility digital twin.
Drawing on LandTech’s work with Pennichuck Water Works, Regena will discuss how connected facility data can support maintenance workflows, emergency response, and long-term capital planning.
The Pennichuck project, which received a 2026 Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award, demonstrates how integrating accurate 3D facility models with asset management and operational systems can make infrastructure information more accessible to the people who need it.
From Floor Plans to Operations: Building a Foundation for Facilities and Safety
Tuesday, November 17 | 3:30–4:00 p.m. EST
Large institutions often have extensive building information, but much of it remains scattered across CAD files, spreadsheets, and departmental systems.
This presentation examines how indoor GIS can transform disconnected building records into a standardized, accessible resource for facilities management, space planning, and emergency preparedness.
Regena will draw on LandTech’s work with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, the University of Denver, and Southwest Florida International Airport to illustrate different approaches to implementing and scaling indoor GIS.
From managing school facility information to supporting campus operations and airport mapping, these projects demonstrate how a shared foundation of spatial data can serve multiple departments and evolve as organizational needs change.
What Attendees Will Learn
How reality capture, 3D modeling, and GIS connect facility information with existing operational systems.
How facility digital twins support maintenance, emergency response, and capital planning.
How to turn scattered floor plans and building records into a consistent indoor GIS foundation.
How to expand indoor mapping across buildings and departments to support daily operations and emergency preparedness.
