MBTA Red Blue Connector

Challenge

Project teams needed accurate, reliable existing-conditions data to support planning for a proposed underground connection between the Charles/MGH MBTA Station and Bowdoin MBTA Station beneath Cambridge Street. The work required precise mapping within a dense, active urban corridor.

Teams needed detailed documentation of station interiors. Clear, verified existing-conditions information was essential to reduce risk and support coordination before construction.

Solution

LandTech conducted a comprehensive survey of Cambridge Street, spanning the full corridor between the two stations. This work established survey-grade base mapping to support roadway and subsurface design.

To further improve design accuracy, LandTech performed advanced 3D laser scanning of the Charles/MGH Station. The team delivered a high-accuracy 3D Revit model that provided a clear, reliable digital representation of existing conditions. Scanning and modeling of the Bowdoin Station were planned as a future project phase.

Results

  • Delivered survey-grade base mapping for a complex, multi-phase urban infrastructure project
  • Provided a high-accuracy 3D Revit model to support design coordination and verification
